As more and more organizations have implemented or are in the process of integrating ITIL into their day-to-day IT operations, the demand for ITIL certified professionals has also increased. The purpose of the ITIL Foundation certification in IT Service Management is to certify that the candidate has gained knowledge of the ITIL terminology, structure and basic concepts and has comprehended the core principles of ITIL practices for service management. Here are some guidelines to help you prepare for the ITIL Foundation certification (V3).
ITIL V3 is an extension of ITIL. This current version provides a more holistic view of the complete lifecycle of services, covering the entire IT organization and all supporting components needed to deliver services to the customer, whereas V2 focused on specific activities directly related to service delivery and support. For ITIL Foundation certification, note that most of the V2 activities remain untouched in V3, but some significant changes in terminology were introduced in order to facilitate the expansion. ITIL V3 consists of five volumes:
1. ITIL Service Strategy
2. ITIL Service Design
3. ITIL Service Transition
4. ITIL Service Operation
5. ITIL Continual Service Improvement
