The storage options for virtual environments include iSCSI, network-attached storage (NAS), Fibre Channel and even Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE).

In this podcast, Senior Technology Writer Stephen J. Bigelow explains how to evaluate these storage options and choose the best approach for your organization.

When selecting storage for virtualization, the biggest factors should be performance and scalability. A virtualized server processes significantly more data and generates significantly more traffic than an unvirtualized machine, so you should choose storage options that can meet these demands. Depending on the size of your organization, some storage options will be better suited for certain tasks than others.

The extra data and increased traffic from virtualized servers can also complicate disaster recovery. It's important to consider potential approaches to storage for virtualization and determine how well they can perform disaster recovery processes. You should also make sure to use backup and replication tools that are virtualization-aware.

Learn about the pros and cons of different storage options for virtualization with the answers to the frequently asked questions in this podcast.
